Only good memories

It's funny how quick the time passes. It's already been 5 months since I arrived to Trondheim and now my journey as a volunteer at Stavne is coming to an end. I have to admit it was a fantastic journey and an amazing adventure here in Norway. To all the people I met and worked with I would like to say: Thank you! It was a pleasure to be here and to have a chance to work with you. I have thousands of good memories! Now I need to make some space on this blog for the new volunteers. They will have their own stories and experiences to write and to share.

I'll be hanging around :)

Julelunsj in Stavne

The last two weeks I was working in the kitchen in Stavne. We were preparing food for the julelunsj. We made a lot of different dishes, typical Norwegian snacks and desserts. We were serving the lunch for two days for over 70 people each day. The food was delicious and preparing it was just fun!

Tiny treats

I am known from being and nature-eco-freak. Apparently there is not only me crazy about eating clean. Thanks to Åse from Stavne I was able to prepare these utterly delicious treats. You are probably not expecting that this tiny cute sweet is actually a healthy version of snickers! I made them with cashew nuts, maple syrup, dates, peanuts, dark chocolate and other super great ingredients. I have tried them and I know by now that one is not enough... yummy!

Juleverksted at Brygga

At the end of November there was a Christmas Workshop at Brygga. During the first day we baked cookies, caramels and gingerbreads. The second day was more about preparing gifts, Christmas cards and all things related that can be hand crafted. We had a lot of fun! Check the photos below so you all know what I'm writing about.

Personal project

Personal project is one of the things a volunteer has to do during the stay. I have already started my own and as I love knitting, especially during autumn and winter, I thought it would be a great idea to do something good for the others. My main idea was to knit scarves for the homeless people. Such scarves are quick and very easy to do and I hope that people from Brygga and Stavne can contribute! I also have plans to teach knitting so if anyone is interested - just contact me! Here is the poster I made for Brygga.

I have another idea for a personal project but I won't say more about it now. Maybe later when I'm sure that it's possible :).

Halloween at Brygga

Yesterday we had a lot of fun at Brygga! When I arrived the whole place was decorated with scary pumpkins, disgusting spiders hanging from huge spider webs, evil mandarins and candles. Spooooky. I don't celebrate Halloween but I must admit the place was looking awesome! We also baked a carrot and pumpkin cake and we decorated it with licorice and chocolate spiders. It was delicious, well... too delicious because I ate three pieces.. three and a half, maybe :).

Pumpkin face

I must admit I don't really understand Halloween and this day is not really anything special for me. But... But. I love pumpkins and everything edible that can be made of them. That is why yesterday was very busy for me in the canteen, as I had to empty three pumpkin guys. I also had a chance to carve a scary face in one of them and I haven't done this before! I prepared the creamy pumpkin soup with chilli, ginger and cinnamon. It's one of my favourites and it will be served for lunch today, yay! I hope everybody will like it.

Bondens marked

On one of the past Saturdays there was a Farmers Market in the city centre. Such events take place every once in a while and it's a great idea both for farmers to sell their products and for us to be able to buy eco and organic food, meat and fish. Except the possibility of just purchasing good quality food, there were also many people who were actually cooking and giving away for example pancakes, sausages, waffles, jams and so on. I totally support Bondens Marked! If you want to check when will be the next one, just visit this page.

Eplekake

Fridays at Brygga... This time we enjoyed ourselves eating an apple cake with vanilla pudding and crumbles, all served warm with vanilla ice cream.

Deilig!

On-arrival training in Romarheim

As you probably know being a volunteer is a very responsible task for a young person. But apart from the seriousness there is also a lot of time for fun. Each volunteer is obliged to participate in a on-arrival training as soon as he reaches the project destination. I had my arrival training last week and it happened around three weeks after my arrival to Norway. Not too soon, not too late as I already had some time to get to know Stavne and Trondheim. The goal of organizing such trainings is to allow the newly arrived people from all over the country to meet up in one place, get to know each other and spend some quality time together.

My on-arrival training took place in Romarheim, a tiny place around 80 km from Bergen. I also had a chance to visit and walk around Bergen so this was a really great advantage. From all organizations around Norway arrived more than 30 people and we stayed together for a week in a school building next to the fjord. We participated in training, group tasks, discussions, games. All of them shared a common topic: why are we volunteers and what does it mean. What values we carry and can we give from ourselves and what can we get in return. We had a great time together and I deeply hope that we will travel to visit each other during our projects.
